A TEENAGE boy suffered a leg injury in a 'hit-and-run' after he was hit by a car which jumped a red light while he was cycling across the road.

Police are appealing for information following a report of the collision involving a teenage cyclist and a car in Newton-le-Willows yesterday morning, Monday, June 26.

It was reported that the incident happened at around 8.20am, a 13-year-old boy and two friends and were crossing the road on Ashton Road, at a pedestrian traffic lights showing a green man, near to Hope Academy School. 

The driver of a white car drove reportedly went through a red light, resulting in the boy coming off his bike and on to the bonnet of the car.

Police said it was further reported that the driver failed to stop to check on the boy’s condition and drove off.

A police spokeswoman said the youngster sustained a slight injury to his leg.

She added: "An investigation is underway to identify the driver and the vehicle, which is believed to be white BMW, to help with inquiries.

"Officers are appealing for witness and drivers who were in the vicinity at that time to come forward to help with the investigation.
