GETTING new ink is a big decision so it’s important to feel comfortable with your tattooist and have confidence in their ability.
Vicky Jackson, who goes by the name of Victoria Kay on social media, has clearly mastered these skills as her loyal clients voted in force for her to win our latest Best of 2023 award – Best for Tattoos – and Vicky couldn’t be happier.
Each week, we will be searching for the best St Helens has to offer in different categories.
Hair by Alice Michelle took the first Best of 2023 title – Best for Hair in St Helens – and Blackburn’s is officially Best for Pies with Kreative Kirsty being crowned Best for Nails.
The Brown Edge Pub is Best for Roast Dinner, The Townhouse was announced as Best for Cocktails and Shakey J’s is Best for Breakfast.
Ashley-James Ward at Award Health and Fitness took Best for Fitness and Paul’s Fishbar was named Best for Fish and Chips.
Voting for St Helens’ Best for Pizza is currently taking place and we’re also looking for nominations in our latest search - Best for Pets – a new category for this year.
Next up was tattoos and Vicky’s White Rabbit Tattoo Studio on Dalehead Place beat off competition from 11 other tattooists and tattoo studios taking our 10th Best of 2023 crown.
Vicky opened the business in 2018 at the shopping promenade in Clinkham Wood having grown up in Carr Mill on an estate very close to her shop.
After finishing her apprenticeship, Vicky decided to take the plunge and set up on her own despite not having an experience managing or running a shop.
Vicky, who is 37, said: “It was quite scary but I’m glad I did it.
“I’m not sure what sets me apart from other tattoo studios – maybe the fact it’s just me in my shop is a bit different as many studios have several artists working in them.
“I specialise in various tattoo styles like fine line, watercolour and black and grey.
“Fine line tattoos are quite popular at the moment.”
But what do the clients at White Rabbit Tattoo Studio think? Why did they vote for Vicky to win?
This is a “welcoming and relaxing place” offering a “great experience” when you go for a new tattoo.
One recommendation said: “I can’t recommend Vicky highly enough.”
Vicky said: “I try to make my studio a relaxing and welcoming environment and pride myself on being approachable and inclusive.
“I was honoured to have made the shortlist for Best for Tattoos 2023 in and I think it’s crazy that I’ve won.
“There are so many great studios and artists in St Helens so the competition is very strong.
“I feel very proud knowing that people love my work enough to nominate me and then vote for me.
“I’m so grateful to everyone who took the time to do so – thank you so much!”
