A GROUP of friends showed the best of St Helens over the weekend as they came to the aid of a man who was struggling to get home.
After visiting the Elephant pub and Maria's Plaice chippy on Elephant Lane, Thatto Heath, Dave Baines took a bad fall and struggled to get back onto his feet on Saturday night.
Walking home alone, the 63-year-old said he had been struggling for around five minutes until the kindness of three strangers came to save the day.

Witnessing the struggle, two men and a woman stopped their car on Elephant Lane and helped Dave to his feet.
As Dave didn't live far away, the trio then walked the 63-year-old all the way back to his house to make sure he made it home safely.
While the Thatto Heath resident was "very bruised, grazed, and embarrassed", he suffered no serious injuries.
Dave said: "Because of my weight, I found it very difficult to get myself back on my feet.
"I must have struggled for about five minutes until a nice young lady came up to me and said she was going to help me up. Two other chaps also helped and the three of them walked me to my house and only left once I was safe.
"I just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to the three people for their kindness."
After Dave posted the story online, dozens more St Helens folk commented to make sure he was okay and commend those who helped him safely home.
