Kim Lyon has competed as a gymnast at the Commonwealth Games and Junior Olympics so she knows a thing or two about fitness and staying healthy.

She opened Prinny’s Fitness on Longton Lane in Rainhill about five years ago, helping women with their health and wellbeing as well children’s fitness.

In our latest Business of the Week feature, Kim Lyon tells us about opening her own business above her sister’s salon and how much she looks forward to going to work each day.

Yes, I’ve lived in Rainhill all my life.

Tell me a bit about your business

Our main philosophy is women’s health and wellbeing. I have also helped numerous children achieve their fitness goals and ambitions, helping combat child obesity. My online ‘28 Day Fat Loss Challenge has helped thousands of women regain their confidence and in turn improve their overall health.

What do you do? What services do you provide?

I offer personal training and coaching as well as children’s acrobatics for youngsters aged seven years and above. There are studio classes, online training and outdoor bootcamps.

Why did you decide to open your own business?

My dad bought the property and turned it into a successful beauty salon which my sister runs. We had space above the salon and I decided to open a fitness studio to help as many women and children as I can.

What’s your business background?

I worked at Prinny’s salon while I was studying then after I qualified opened Prinny’s fitness.

Why this type of business?

I have competed at the Commonwealth Games and Junior Olympics. I wanted to utilise my skills as an ex international British gymnast for Team GB. I love what I do.

How did the Covid-19 pandemic affect your business?

I was open before the Covid-19 pandemic. It could have closed my business but I was lucky as I took my fitness online, the minute I had to shut my doors.

What makes your business different to others in the same area/field? What sets your business apart from your competitors?

I’m unique at what I do. I will always put my own twist on things. With being an ex-athlete, I am drilled to always keep moving forwards.

Why do loyal customers return to your business?

There is such a good vibe in my studio - any fitness level is welcome. The passion which I have to help my community reach their fitness goals is unlimited.

What’s next? What do the next few months hold for you and your business?

Due to high customer demand, I’m looking at moving to larger premises but still staying local.
