A WOMAN who wanted to spread some joy and support families during a cost of living crisis has helped a young girl have the perfect birthday.
Last month, Karen Brown sent out a request on social media to see if any families would like help with their child's upcoming birthday.
The 53-year-old offered to bake a free birthday cake for any family who needed it; hoping to help create the perfect day for a youngster and take away some pressure from parents.

After many responses to her public call-out, Karen spent time baking personalised cakes for eight-year-old Libby Power and the family of Natalie Birkett.
Picking up the hand-crafted Spiderman cake for Libby's birthday on Sunday, June 11, her mum Hayley said: "I'm absolutely grateful for this lovely gesture.
"As we all know the cost of living has increased so much, [so] this has meant I was struggling [to] provide anything special for my daughter's 8th birthday.
"Due to Karen's generosity, this now means my daughter has the cake she wanted. She's absolutely made up."
After spending two years trying to put her mum, who has dementia, into the most suitable care home, Karen said that she started baking to keep her busy during this stressful period.
While not looking for publicity, she said that she wanted to do something small to help families in St Helens and make a "little difference to a child’s birthday in tough times".
Following the positive feedback, Karen has now created an online page, 'Karmia Cakes and Bakes' for others to try her cakes and sweet treats for any special occasion. Her page can be found here.
