A CHINESE restaurant in Newton-le-Willows has received an improved food hygiene rating following a zero rating during a previous inspection.
Dragon and Phoenix on Newton High Street was given a zero out of five score after an assessment in November 2022, the Food Standards Agency's website shows.
The assessment at the Chinese restaurant found that improvement was necessary for its hygienic food handling.
Major improvements were reported as necessary for the cleanliness and condition of the building, as well as its management of food safety.
Following its most recent inspection in April, the restaurant's standards received a boost as it was given a four out of five food hygiene rating.
During the assessment, hygienic food handling, as well as management of food safety, were awarded a 'good' standard rating, with cleanliness and condition of facilities and building 'generally satisfactory'.
From a score of zero to five, food hygiene ratings are given to food handling businesses after an inspection has assessed how well they comply with food safety laws.
The rating reflects the standards of food hygiene found on the date of the inspection by the local authority.
