A CAFE located in a "jewel of the borough" is set to reopen, it has been confirmed.
The Boathouse cafe has served countless customers on Taylor Park's lakefront over the years.
However, as reported by the Star, the long-serving tenants decided it was the right time to retire and handed the keys back to St Helens Council in April.
Many residents – including pensioners and young families - took to social media to express their disappointment with its closure – and expressed their gratitude to the Boathouse team.
Regulars have even taken to setting up outside with flasks during its closure.
'Council to run on interim basis'
St Helens Council pledged to reopen the cafe as soon as possible and have confirmed it will be back up and running from today (Friday).
It will be run on an interim basis by council staff while the local authority considers ways to enhance the Eccleston park.
Councillor Andy Bowden, cabinet member for environmental services and climate change, said: "We're delighted to announce the Boathouse Cafe at Taylor Park will be reopening to customers from today, Friday where park visitors can enjoy a range of food and drinks in the picturesque surroundings of Taylor Park.
“The cafe will open initially be run by the council on an interim basis as a way to review the opportunities to develop this great park."
