WHEN it comes to roast dinners, it’s all about the gravy!
It needs to be homemade and there needs to be lots of it on a roast dinner.
The Brown Edge Pub have clearly perfected their recipe as they’ve won St Helens’ Best for Roast Dinner for the second time!
Each week, we will be searching for the best St Helens has to offer in different categories.
Hair by Alice Michelle took the first Best of 2023 title – Best for Hair in St Helens –Blackburns is officially Best for Pies and Kreative Kirsty was crowned Best for Nails.
Voting for St Helens’ Best for Cocktails is currently taking place and we’re also looking for nominations in our latest search - Best for Breakfast.
Next up was roast dinners and eight delicious Sunday bests in St Helens made the shortlist for Best for Roast Dinner 2023 with The Brown Edge Pub beating off some tough competition and taking the coveted title.
The Nutgrove Road venue is no stranger to winning awards scooping two Best of 2022 awards last year – Best for Roast Dinner and Best for Pizza.
They’ve secured back-to-back wins with their traditional Sunday meal thanks to their “liquid gold gravy” and homemade Yorkshire puddings.
The Brown Edge Pub is owned by George and Hannah Ford who have lived in St Helens for 11 years.
Hannah said: “The Brown Edge was our local pub and it was a no brainer when it came on the market because we knew it had potential.
“It’s been hard work but awards like this really do make us appreciate all the effort we’ve put in.
“We’re absolutely delighted to win two years on the run and it’s given the whole team a real buzz.
“You’d have thought we’d won the World Cup when we told everyone we’d won!”
Everything is homemade at The Brown Edge when it comes to roast dinners.
They use Cypriot potatoes and serve lashings of gravy – something the customers ask if they can buy jugs of when it comes to cooking their own roast dinners.
So, what do the customers and locals think about the award-winning roast dinners?
One nomination said: “The Brown Edge continues to deliver the very best roast dinners in the town, and their friendly staff - especially Hannah and George - make your Sunday visit even more special.
“They deserve to win again this year.”
As well as their delicious Sunday roasts, The Brown Edge offers award-winning pizzas with a recent favourite being salt and pepper chicken.
They also offer a bottomless brunch with the last one raising £450 for The Steve Prescott Foundation.
Resident DJ Georgia Oakes will be taking part in the hottest game of rugby ever to raise money for the charity later this year when she travels to the Sahara Desert.
