A CAR crashed into a traffic light on the St Helens Linkway this afternoon (Wednesday).

The collision is reported to have place at the Sherdley Roundabout, according to traffic feeds.

Police, the fire and rescue service and ambulance are believed to have been in attendance.

There has been slow traffic in the area.

Fire and rescue crews attended at around 4.15pm and the driver of the car was already outside of the vehicle when they arrived, a spokeswoman said.

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "MFRS were called to a road traffic collision on May- 17. 

"Crews were alerted at 4.14pm and on scene at 4.17pm. Two fire engines attended

"On arrival, crews found a road traffic collision involving a car and a traffic light.

"The car was on all four wheels and the driver was out of the vehicle conscious and breathing prior to fire crews arriving.

"Crews remained on scene to make the vehicle safe and handed the incident over to North West Ambulance Service on arrival.

"Crews left the scene 5.11pm."

Traffic feeds said police had left the scene and that the road has been cleared.
