A YEAR has passed since plans were discussed to reopen a historic village pub.
The Fiddle I’th Bag Inn closed its doors in 2018 and since then has been vacant and awaiting to be restored.
The cherished village drinking spot in Burtonwood has been closed for several years and was the subject of an arson attack in March 2020.
As a result of the fire, ‘extensive damage’ was caused to the building, with three fire engines attending and firefighters spending more than two hours tackling the blaze.
In May last year, proposals to restore and reopen the former pub was approved, with discussions of the Alder Lane pub becoming an addition to the Italian restaurant chain Pesto.
However, it appears the historic pub is still on the market.
Earlier this year, a group of residents began campaigning to retain the pub, the last of four historical public houses in their area.

Locals have come together in an attempt to purchase Fiddle I'th Bag Inn due to its significance as the final original place markers laid down in the village and civil parish in the 1840s.
The campaigners have now found a preferred purchaser of the pub, who share the group’s vision to reopen the pub and bring it back to its former glory.
It is understood that an investor has not been confirmed and the pub has yet been purchased.
