A COMMUNITY group is organising a gardening event to celebrate the King’s coronation.
Friends of Victoria Park has served in the community for more than 20 years, with the original intention of improving the park and encouraging participation with residents.
The group is encouraging residents to join in to commemorate the coronation with a new flower bed and plaque.
Bob Ellis, from Rivington Avenue, is a member of the group and hopes the community will join them to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.
Bob, 65, said: "The event is about community participation; we love hearing people say ‘our park’.
"The idea came from people visiting the park and asking what we are doing for it, so this event is an answer for them; people want to come together and commemorate the coronation.
"During the pandemic, we found the park so important for mental health, and saw people going outside to meet people or go on a walk on their own, and I think it’s an underestimated thing about the park."
Those who would like to participate in the coronation celebration may join the group at Victoria Park on Monday, May 8, at 1:30pm.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own gloves, with gardening equipment provided by the group.
