A COMMUNITY parade is happening in Newton-le-Willows to celebrate King Charles III’s coronation.

The Walking Day, organised by Newton and Earlestown Community Group alongside The High Street Hive, will see community groups and organisations take part in the parade along Newton High Street before attendees make their way down to Willow Park.

The high street is red, white, and blue ahead of the celebration.

A brass and samba band will perform at the event, with a petting zoo and scarecrow competition among the activities at the event.

Newton-le-Willows East Ward Councillor Seve Gomez-Aspron MBE, vice chair of NECG, said: "The event on Sunday is set to be spectacular.

"The High Street Hive will be hosting their scarecrow competition along the entire High Street.

"There will be a fair in Willow Park which will include music, stalls, a petting zoo for kids to meet a variety of farm animals, donkey rides, and food and drink.

"There will be a parade along the High Street starting at the former St Aelreds playground and finishing at Willow Park consisting of our veterans, community groups, schools, organisations, and hopefully some surprise interesting vehicles.

"It is hoped to display the classic cars at National Tyrers with their kind support.

"The High St businesses look amazing with their patriotic decorations and so we hope the whole family can come and enjoy the event whilst supporting local businesses.

"It’ll be a cavalcade to behold."

Alexandra Myhill, co-owner of the Riddling Rack, added: "High Street businesses can’t wait to celebrate the coronation and have had their frontages decked out in red white, and blue for weeks.
