A POPULAR community pub has reopened its upstairs function room space after a month-long renovation.

The Elephant Hotel, on Elephant Lane, has been a popular drinking den in Thatto Heath for generations.

While the pub is still a vibrant venue, landlady Jane Fletcher said that she thought a refurbishment of the upstairs space was necessary as it was largely unused.

Accommodating up to 50 people, the function room is available free of charge for any private event such as birthdays, weddings, and funerals, with a cost in place if food is needed.

Describing the space as a "nice cosy venue", Jane said that although a few people have rented out the newly-renovated room, she feels that many aren't aware of the space they have on offer.

Following the investment to refurbish the function room, Jane, who has owned the pub for 7 years, said: "We try to put ourselves out there as a pub.

"It might cost us a little bit of money but that's what people want to see and we get that back from people coming in."

Following the difficulties of the pandemic and cost of living crisis, Jane said that it has been "brilliant" to witness the bustling atmosphere return to the Elephant Lane pub.

With a wide selection of ale on offer as well as live sports and a large beer garden, there is said to be a "good mix" of customers that spans different generations.

Following the renovation of the upstairs function room, the Elephant is also planning Coronation and Eurovision events, as well as future quiz nights and bingo events, once a new sound system is installed.
