A 17-YEAR-OLD boy has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a fatal hit-and-run collision.

A black Audi S8 car - which was stolen from Rainford - struck a man and then crashed into a house on Morgan Mews, Netherton, Liverpool.

The driver of the car then made off on foot. 

Paramedics attended and 63-year-old David Francis from Litherland was confirmed dead at the scene.

It is believed the Audi S8 was stolen in a burglary in the early hours of Thursday, April 13 in the Harrison Drive area of Rainford.

Police say it is believed the offenders may have travelled to the Rainford area in a grey Audi Q2 which was stolen in a burglary in the Caithness Drive area of Crosby also during the early hours of April 13.

The Audi Q2 was recovered by police in Rainford.

The 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing death while uninsured, aggravated, taking any a motor vehicle without owner consent and two counts of burglary of a dwelling.

He has been remanded into custody.

He will appear at Merseyside Youth reman Court today, Friday, April 21.

Detective Inspector Jay Halpin said: “While we have charged one person with burglary, we know others were involved in those burglaries and we will continue to pursue them and bring them to justice.”
