POLICE are hunting a teenager who stabbed a man near to shops on a playing field on Easter Monday afternoon. 

Man suffers stab wounds

Officers are appealing for information after the attack, which saw a man in his 20s suffer stab wounds to his body.

Police received a report that at around 3.20pm, three friends were at the rear of shops on King George V Playing Fields, in Haydock, when they were approached by a group of teenagers aged 14 and 15, and one pulled out a knife and stabbed one of the men.

The victim in his 20s suffered stab wounds to his body which are not life-threatening, a police spokesperson said.

Police investigation launched

They added an investigation is underway and CCTV and forensic inquiries are being carried out in the local area.

Detective Chief Inspector John Fitzgerald said: “Inquiries are in the early stages to establish what has taken place. 

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of the park at that time and seen or heard anything to come forward and speak to us. 

“I would appeal for people in the area to check your CCTV, doorbell and dashcam to see if it has captured any footage as it may help with the investigation.”
