A KEBAB shop and Pizzeria in St Helens has clarified that it is still waiting for a reinspection from environmental health bosses.

It was inaccurately reported yesterday that Geno's on Duke Street had been given a second zero rating in the space of two months.

Those reports were based on inaccurate information that had been uploaded to the official Food Standards Agency website, which suggested a second inspection had taken place at the end of February.

However, the inspection is still to take place.

Geno's has contacted the Star to point out the mistake and St Helens Council has confirmed that a glitch in the system led to the error that suggested an inspection had taken place on February 23.

The Star would like to clarify the situation and, as it stands, the reinspection is still due to take place in the coming weeks.

The current situation is that Geno's has a rating of of zero following an inspection in early January.

Bosses there say significant improvements have been made since the inspection and they are confident of recording the highest rating when environmental health inspectors visit in the next few weeks.

From a score of zero to five, food hygiene ratings are given to food handling businesses after an inspection has assessed how well they comply with food safety laws.

The rating reflects the standards of food hygiene found on the date of the inspection by the local authority.

If businesses are awarded a score lower than five, the local authority officer will explain what action they can take to improve.
