AN INTIMATE venue that has slowly been growing its reputation in the town centre will soon expand with an upstairs sports bar.

Launching as a trendy cafe and wine bar on George Street, Little George Quarter opened up to the public in late January.

It was a whole new venture for partners Chris Hobin and Katie Donohoe, who transformed the former Bento Box Noodle to create a cosy place to grab a drink or bite to eat.

Tucked down one of the quieter streets in the town centre, business has been steady but gradually growing for the Little George Quarter.

Chris, who also runs construction firm CJ Hobin Ltd, said: "Things have been quite good so far, especially considering the time of the year.

"We're finding a lot of people saying they didn't know we were here [...] but slowly but surely we are getting repeat clientele.

"We are still new to this and we are still finding our feet, but we can see a difference week by week and what products are selling the most."

Selling food such as English Breakfasts, pasta, and paninis, Chris said that this side of the business is a little slower at present, but the team are still seeing signs of improvement.

While the intimate venue only contains a handful of tables and chairs, it becomes more vibrant at the weekend as space is made for high tables as well for live entertainment.

With live sports also on offer at the bar, Chris intends to turn the upstairs space, which is currently under construction, into a sports bar.

As passing trade already increases when Saints are playing, this is hoped to attract more customers who wish to watch the rugby in a more intimate setting.
