THE OPENING of a family-run dog grooming business has fulfilled a lifelong ambition and launched after a gruelling eight-week renovation of a property in Parr.
Growing up around pets and always owning rescue dogs, Liz Partington said that she had always wanted to follow the path of dog grooming but never followed through with gaining the relevant qualifications.
However, following the breakdown of her marriage and sale of her house, Liz followed her sister Claire into the dog grooming business and took the gamble to rent an empty property in Parr.
After "blood, sweat, and tears" went into transforming the empty unit into a new dog grooming salon, Liz and Claire launched Signature Grooming on Ashtons Green Drive at the start of the month

Liz, a former school site manager and Wigan Council employee, said: "I've always wanted to follow the path of dog grooming, but never took the days out to get qualified.
"After the sale of my house came through and I was approaching 50, I thought that I'm either going to buy another property or invest in myself.
"As my sister was already a qualified mobile dog groomer, I put the idea to her and luckily she grabbed at it!"
With Claire gaining a respectable reputation as a mobile dog groomer, this allowed Signature Grooming to start on the front foot as many of her clients have come across to the new business.
Walk-ins and word-of-mouth have also provided a big boost for the dog groomers, and Liz plans to be mentored by Claire as she gains the relevant qualifications.
Liz, 50, added: "It took a long time for us to find the right place for the business, and then with a lot of family support, and blood, sweat, and tears, we revamped the shop to how we wanted it.
"We're really happy that things are going well so far, and we hope to keep doing what we're doing and introduce new equipment in the future.
"I've always worked hard and I know I have all my family's support behind me, so I thought there's nothing to lose and there is no reason why we can't succeed."
