WORK is progressing to convert an empty retail space into the new home of a women's fashion retailer.

Select is relocating to the prominent retail space at the corner of Church Street and Bridge Street.

The store was occupied by Burtons and Dorothy Perkins until 2014 before those stores relocated to Ravenhead Retail Park.

A Fat Face outlet store opened there temporarily and the building was used at various times as a pop-up art gallery but there has been frustration for retail bosses in their attempts to find an occupier.

St Helens Star:

Now the fashion chain is moving in after moving from a space inside the Church Square Shopping Centre, which has been taken up by Bonmarche.

A date for the new store opening has not been confirmed, but as pictures show the fit-out inside has been taking shape.

Signage on the front of the building is still required as is some further work inside, but Select bosses hope it could open next week.

The move means one of the most prominent spaces in the town centre will be occupied again.

St Helens Star:

As previously reported, a number of empty Church Square units are being filled by stores which are relocating from the Hardshaw Centre, which will be flattened in the next year as part of a regeneration scheme.
