AN independent fashion store has announced plans to close.

Ellamora, based in Rainford, which sold clothing and gifts, will stop trading at the end of the month.

The closure will be seen as a blow to the local economy and is a reflection of the difficulties many retailers are facing.

The store on Church Road in Rainford village had opened in 2016.

'Difficult decision'

In a statement, owner Ali Tyrer, the owner, said trading had proved really challenging.

She wrote: “I am sorry to say that I have made the difficult decision to close Ellamora, something not easy at all to do.

“I have loved being part of the Rainford community for the last 6 and a half years, attracting visitors to ours and other local businesses and making a difference where we can.

“It has been a privilege to have looked after so many lovely customers both in the shop and through our website - many have become friends and I have been grateful for your loyalty and support over the years.”

Ali, who ran the former Tyrers store in St Helens, added: “Like most small businesses we've found trading really challenging, especially recently and it is likely to continue for some time yet - now feels like the right time to stop, start a new chapter and enjoy some precious family time.

“We will remain open until the end of the month to bring business to a close and it would be lovely of course to see you before then.”
