THE reopening of The Lamb pub on Corporation Street has resulted in a wave of positive feedback from the public.

However, there remains a host of empty former pubs and nightspots across St Helens town centre, with some falling victim to the pandemic.

A number of the venues are on the market and looking for new owners.

The vacant buildings add to the number of boarded-up properties in St Helens - but many of them are on the market, either for repurposing a potentially as new venues.

In November 2021, the popular pub, which was run by Weatherspoons, closed its doors.

The venue has had many faces over the years, including the Chicago Rock, but after being a face in the town centre since 2009, they finally closed on November 28.

The pub remains closed. Which has a prominent position on Chalon Way.

It remains advertised to let.

Counting House

The venue, a former bank, has had a number of guises in the past, including the Forum bar in the 90s.

But The Counting House closed in 2015 and the building has stood dormant since. The site has since been bought by the entrepreneur Ian Pitts who has development plans for the surrounding area.

Breeze Bar

The Ormskirk Street venue was closed in April 2021 after failing to improve following a series of violent and disorderly incidents.

A high number of incidents involving crime, disorder and violence, including an assault in August 2019 where a man suffered serious facial injuries, have been seen at The Breeze Bar, on Ormskirk Street in St Helens town centre in recent years.

Mollie’s

St Helens Star:

The town centre shut in February 2022, after an appeal brought against a closure order was withdrawn.

Mollie’s bar on Duke Street, St Helens faced a review of its premises licence in autumn 2021 after Merseyside Police raised concerns it was linked to crime and disorder.

St Helens Borough Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee took the decision to revoke the licence after hearing the evidence.

The bar, however, remained open after mounting an appeal that was due to go through the courts.

The council has since confirmed this appeal has been withdrawn and the decision to strip the venue of its licence has come into force.

The property has been advertised for sale.

The Westfield Street pub was once a thriving venue - but it currently stands empty with the owners Red Oak Taverns advertising for a licensee.

Buffet City (what used to be Crystals)

The most recent use of this building was Buffet City but the Ormskirk Street venue will be known by those who went out in the town during the 80s and 90s as Crystals. The boarded-up building stands as a sorry sight.
