THE owners of a gym in Newton-le-Willows have shared why they decided to open a restaurant nearby.

Mo Zaki and Stephen Tunstall, who run Newton Fitness on Wargrave Road, recently opened Newton Grill in November.

The bar and grill, also on Wargave Road, has since taken off with locals, as it offers both healthy options as well as a place to indulge.

The restaurant serves freshly-cooked meals ranging from steaks and breakfasts, however, the business opened to introduce meal preps and healthier options for customers.

Discussing the reason of taking over the former takeaway premises, Mo said: "We’re trying to promote healthy eating, so we also do meal preps and healthy options on the menu.

"We have loads of people coming in for breakfast and they look at the menu and like a healthy option, so they go from a traditional English breakfast to a health one and end up enjoying it, so that’s what we’re trying to bring into the area.

"We still have both options on the menu, so people can sometimes come in and say they feel like going for the healthier option today.

"It’s going all right. It was a bit slow to start as we’re trying to change it from a takeaway environment to a restaurant; it’s getting a bit hard but hopefully it’ll be sorted in a few months.

"It’s good, people are loving the food and we’ve had no complaints so far.

"There isn’t a lot in Earlestown at the moment, so we’re trying to get it a bit livelier; we want to give to the local area."

The gym and restaurant owner also detailed how an outdoor seating area is hoped to be introduced for the Summer.
