HERE is a look at five developments in St Helens we have reported on this month.
Parr Baths
AMBITIOUS plans to replace Parr Swimming and Fitness Centre with a state-of-the-art leisure complex, alongside a new Saints training centre, have moved a step closer.
The proposals were discussed by St Helens Council’s cabinet at a meeting.

Homes in Newton-le-Willows refused
PROPOSALS to build nearly 100 houses on former green belt, with an access road running through safeguarded land have been refused unanimously by the council.
Wain Homes North West sent in the controversial proposals for land west of Mill Lane, on the edge of Newton-le-Willows, earlier this year.
The plans sought permission for 99 houses but drew opposition from residents with 39 objections lodged.
The council's planning committee rejected the application.

Sutton Oak Welsh Chapel
PLANS to convert a historic chapel into a coffee house were formally approved.
Proposals for the Sutton Oak Welsh Chapel, on the corner of Lancots Lane, were sent in to the council in 2021.
Applicant Heather Sheikhlou submitted the plans, which also include for a self-contained residential flat to the rear and creation of a porch.
Sutton Oak Welsh Chapel, which is more than 175 years old, is believed to be the third oldest listed building in St Helens.
St Helens Council has granted the application formal permission this month.

Former Furnace Amans Arms
PLANS have been put forward to convert a former pub into commercial premises with an apartment above.
Proposals have been sent to the council’s planning department regarding the vacant former Furnace Mans Arms on Pocket Nook Street.
A planning application has been submitted by applicants Under One Roof Holdings Ltd for the buildings at 49-51 Pocket Nook Street.
The application is on standard consultation until Thursday, December 29.

Grocery shop
AN APPLICATION has been submitted seeking permission to convert a former nail bar into a grocery shop.
Proposals for the former Hollywood Nail Salon, on Claughton Street, in St Helens town centre, have been sent to the council.
The application, by Ahmed Faraj, seeks a certificate of lawfulness for the proposed change of use of the premises from a nail bar to a grocery store.
A standard consultation on the application lasts until Tuesday, December 27.
