A NEW fish and chip shop has opened up in St Helens town centre this week.

Working in restaurants and chippies for the past 20 years, Kristen Lea decided to open his own business after seeing a unit lying empty on Barrow Street for a number of years.

Naming the business after his nine-year-old daughter, Kristen opened 'Alicia's Plaice' on Tuesday, December 20.

Kristen, 47, said: "I was pretty much running the last chippy I worked in, in Wigan, so when I saw the empty shop I just thought why not?"

"There's a lot of extra things you need to think about when owning your own shop, but I'm looking forward to being here."

Becoming one of the only chippies in the town centre, the two-storey business has opened up in the former Chipmunk fish and chip shop on Barrow Street.

The town centre family-run Chipmunk outlet did not reopen after shutting down during the pandemic.

As Chipmunk has served the people of St Helens for more than 40 years, Kristen hopes 'Alicia's Plaice' can have as much long-standing success as its predecessor.

With options to sit in or take away, 'Alicia's Plaice' is open from Monday to Saturday from 11am - 5pm.

The business will be cash only until the new year.
