PLANS to install floodlights at a football pitch, along with a 50-seater covered stand, have been submitted.

Garswood United Football Club’s application for the site, on Garswood Road, has been put forward.

It is currently listed as ‘awaiting decision’.

The planning statement says the applicant, Garswood United Football Club, is a member of the non-league football pyramid, and currently applying for promotion within that pyramid.

It said: “The club is an active hub for the local community.

“In order to complete the process of achieving promotion the club needs to install floodlights and a covered 50-seater spectator stand. ‘The site’ is at the football ground and shares a boundary with fields to the north and west, Garswood Road to the east and a row of houses and a breakers yard to the south.”

The planning statement also says that the site currently enjoys parking, bar facilities and good quality playing facilities.

It adds: “The site is approximately 1.19 hectares in size and is located off Garswood Road, to the north of Garswood village.

“The site is located in what would be considered a rural area with little residential accommodation within 100m of the site boundary.

“The application, similar to a previously approved scheme, would not only help the resident club progress in line with their ambitions but would also have very little if any negative impact on the area surrounding the club due to the rural nature and the distances to any residential properties.

“The proposals are fully in line with the existing use and would see an improvement to facilities for local residents and club members from junior level through to adult users.”
