A MAN suffered what are believed to be serious injuries during an assault at a Newton-le-Willows pub on Saturday evening, December 17.

Here's what we know so far

Officers were called to the Pied Bull on High Street, Newton-le-Willows at about 9pm to reports of two men being assaulted.

One man in his 50s and another man in his 30s were assaulted.

The attack is believed to have happened inside and outside of the pub, police say.

How are the victims?

The older man taken to was taken to hospital with head and facial injuries, which are being assessed. Detectives say the older man's injuries are believed to be serious.

The second man sustained minor facial injuries.

Have police made an arrest?

Yes, following an initial investigation, a 25-year-old man from Golborne was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was taken to a police station for questioning.

What police have said

Detective Inspector Lawry Simm said: “Our enquiries are in the early stages but we initially believe that this incident took place both inside and outside of the premises, and has resulted in serious injuries for one of the victims."
