WELCOME to Behind the Lens, a feature that shines a light on the talented photographers in our St Helens Star Camera Club group.
This week, Jennifer Hill shares some of her favourite photographs taken in Taylor Park, where she spends much of her free time.
After buying a camera at the start of the pandemic as a way of distracting herself from a new job and easing her worries, Jennifer, who lives in St Helens, enjoys escaping from everyday life, taking photographs and revisiting them again once she’s home.

When and why did you take up photography?
When lockdown started, I had just got a new job and was obviously very worried about catching Covid-19. I really needed the job so treated myself to a camera so that I would have a hobby and something to focus on when I had a day off. This really helped with my anxiety.
What do you love about taking pictures?
I love capturing nature in the local parks and I enjoy going on day trips where I can take photos of animals in the countryside.

Where is your favourite place to take pictures and why?
I really love taking pictures at the seaside as the ocean is such a relaxing place to be. You forget about life’s worries when you’re watching the water and then, when you get home, you can look at the photographs and forget again.
What is your favourite subject matter and why?
One of my favourites places is Taylor Park as there’s always something different to see there. Sometimes the fountain is on and it creates a lovely image with the boathouse in the background or there are baby ducklings swimming on the water. When it’s sunny, the colours on the water are fantastic.

What do you enjoy about being part of St Helens Star Camera Club on Facebook?
I enjoy being able to share my pictures with others and see what other people have been photographing. It always gives me renewed inspiration to take more pictures.
If you could photograph anyone/any place/anything, who/what would it be?
I would love to go to the Lake District to photograph the beautiful views, lakes and cosy cottages.
