A LANE of the East Lancashire Road was closed off this morning (Tuesday) after a collision involving a van.

Police and ambulance were called to the scene, close to the junction with Rainford Road, near to the traffic lights at Windle Island.

Officers diverted traffic and a police car has blocked off the lane.

Debris was cleared up from the road after the incident.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "There was a single-vehicle road traffic collision on the East Lancs Road.

"We were called at around 10.30am.

"It involved a van and there were no serious injuries."

A North West Ambulance spokeswoman added: "We were called at 10.39am to a RTC (road traffic collision).

"We sent an ambulance to the scene and assessed a male patient on scene.

"We did not take anybody to hospital."
