THE CITADEL Theatre is back open for business with a huge double header planned this weekend.

After a five-year lease with MD Creatives ended in September, all upcoming performances were cancelled at the 160-year-old Waterloo Street venue.

However, in order to keep the venue alive and ensure the success of the town centre's nightlife, the Citadel was kept open by landlord Ian Pitts and his associate Jamie Etchells.

Making sure the venue is back open with a bang, the pair booked Starsailor singer James Walsh for the venue's reopening tonight (Friday, December 2).

Speaking to the Star, James said he can't wait to play the "legendary" Citadel as the Wigan-formed Starsailor envied bands playing there in their early days.

Although Satrsailor never got to play the Citadel, they went on to be named 'Best New Band in Britain' by the NME in 2001 and gathered a huge fanbase with hits such as 'Four to the Floor' and 'Silence is Easy'.

Playing his first show at the St Helens venue, James promised some Starsailor classics will be played amongst his acoustic solo tracks.

Following James' gig tonight, this will be immediately followed up with popular Oasis tribute band 'Definitely Oasis' on Saturday night (December 3).

Regarded as one of the best Oasis tributes, the musicians will play a collection of the Britpop band's greatest hits as they celebrate almost ten years in the cover band.
