MOTORISTS are being warned that thieves are targeting cars in St Helens.
Police revealed this week there have been a spate of incidents where cars with keyless systems have been stolen.
It is led to advice for car owners to put their keys inside a faraday box or bag to put fobs inside.
In a statement police said: “We have had reports of keyless cars being stolen recently.
“Please consider getting a faraday box. It would also help to disable the keyless mode in your vehicle settings.
“If you use a faraday box, keep it placed as far away from your vehicle, so the signal is difficult to track.”
Officers have not said how many cars with keyless systems have been taken.
However, they have warned that crooks have also been stealing property from inside cars.
People are urged to keep valuables locked away safely and out of view.
Police added: “St Helens has seen an increase of thefts from motor vehicles recently.
“Please make sure your vehicle is locked and secure and don't leave anything on view.”
Officers have been carrying out patrols in Newton-le-Willows and Rainford, warning people to secure vehicles.
