NEW plans for a showroom have been drawn up by a van dealer.

Applicants Van Sales NW Ltd have sent in the proposals to St Helens Council for the site on Haydock Lane.

The application seeks permission to create a showroom and office building, with a mezzanine, and associated works.

The site is a hardstanding van sales area with ancillary uses including a garage and workshop. There is also a car wash adjacent, which will not be affected by the plans.

A design and access statement by planning agents Taurus Design Services Ltd, on behalf of the applicant says: "The site is currently a hardstanding van sales area linked to a wider use of the site that includes sales offices and repair and service maintenance buildings for commercial vans".

It cites there have been various applications for this proposal at the site and that "following ongoing discussions with United Utilities regarding an existing sewer running underneath the site it was deemed the building would need to be relocated to outside the influence of their asset and a Build-Over Agreement could not be granted with the showroom in its proposed position, hence the reason for this revised application".

It adds: "The existing character of the area has been maintained and has not been jeopardised by the extent of this proposal". It is also said "the proposal remains fundamentally the same as the previously approved proposal".

The plans are on standard consultation to the public until Wednesday, December 14. A determination deadline has been set for January 10, 2023.
