A LOCAL band has taken home the title as the highest placed English band in a championship.
Rainford Band headed to Scotland over the weekend to compete in the Scottish Open Brass Band, where they were up against some of the UK’s best bands.
The band came third in the event, however, they became the highest placed English band in the competition.
Guest musical director Dr David Thornton led the band as they played English Heritage by George Lloyd at Perth Concert Hall.

The band received positive feedback from one of the judges, John Doyle, who said: "It was a well thought out performance – I loved it.
"Soloists superb and band dynamics excellent; brilliant stuff."
Following the band’s successful appearance at the Scottish Brass Band Championships, Geoff Hunter, chairman of Rainford Band, said: "We are delighted with the result, particularly in view of the standard of the competition in this national event.
"Post Covid the band has seen quite a few personnel changes and this result gives us a real impetus to maintain the standards needed for a Championship Section Band."
The Rainford Band was formed in 1976 and has since delivered a number of sell out concerts and entered competitions across the country.
