MANY residents were treated to an unusual sight in the skies above this morning, Tuesday.

While it may be normal to spot a regular passenger plane passing by, people were treated to an enormous cargo plane.

The Airbus A300-600 Super Transporter, or more commonly known as the Beluga, was snapped flying at low altitude in the area at around 10.45am.

The huge plane took off from Hamburg in Germany shortly after 9am on its way to Chester Hawarden Airport.

Featuring one of the largest cargo holds of any aircraft flying today, the BelugaST plays a key role in keeping the Airbus production and assembly network operating at full capacity.

The fleet is also available for freight companies and other potential customers as a unique solution to meet outsized freight transportation needs.

The aircraft provide customers with large cargo transport solutions for a variety of sectors, including space, energy, military, aeronautics, maritime and humanitarian sectors.

BelugaSTs have been operating for Airbus’ own industrial airlift needs since the mid-1990s, and they are progressively being replaced by a fleet of six new-generation BelugaXL versions.
