LANES Trophies have not just been a business serving the St Helens community for 44 years, it’s also been raising thousands of pounds for charity over the years, and asking for no credit.
Lanes Trophies, provides bespoke medals and trophies for a range of sports, specialising in league trophies that can be engraved according to unique specifications but it’s his charity work - helped by his family - for which he’s been awarded the Unsung Hero award.
A shocked David, 67, said: “We’ve done a lot over the years because it’s the right thing to do.
“When you can you should help others and it’s all the family really who all pitch in and do that and I’m proud of all of them especially my wife Gillian who has put up with me for 46 years.”

The granddad-of-one added: “We did different things to raise money for those who needed it, raising £25,000 for The Honeyrose Foundation, couple of thousand for the likes of Willowbrook and that as well and I’ve been involved with testimonials of players from the 80s and 90s too but to win this means a lot really.
“It means so much this, we didn’t do any of this for credit really, just to help but it means a lot to get it.
“I’m an old man and it makes me tearful, thank you so much to everyone.
“If I can can I just thank my family who are what it’s all about really. That’s Gillian, plus my daughter Sharon, son Martin, son-in-law Gordon and my grandson Alfie who is 11.
“We all do what we can together and I might be getting this but it’s for us all really.
“I’ll be proud to put it up in pride of place really.”
