POLICE have explained their presence on the East Lancs on Saturday evening.
A stretch of the East Lancs Road was closed on Saturday night due to "a police incident".
The Manchester-bound dual carriageway was shut from Windle Island to the junction with Carr Mill Road
The force said they were called to a "concern for safety" of a man who was sttod on the edge of a bridge.

He was brought down by emergency services.
A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "We can confirm we were called out to East Lancs Road following a report of a concern for safety of a man.
"At around 8.20pm on Saturday 19th November, we received a report that a man was stood on the edge of a bridge.
"Emergency services attended and he was brought down at around 9.50pm."
