A BOXING club showed their care for the community as they made a huge donation to a cafe that suffered a devastating break in.

Momo's, on Westfield Street, is a much-loved community café that focuses on supporting people's mental health, wellbeing and disabilities.

Despite the huge affection the town has for Momo's, the cafe was targeted by burglars last month, with cash amounting to a few hundred pounds, an iPad with a talking menu, and a laptop alleged to be stolen.

With culprits smashing the cafe's windows to gain entrance, the incident devastated the owners as they were forced to cancel vital meetings for children with disabilities and a men's mental health support group.

In order to show their support for the community cafe and help them rebuild as quickly as possible, Rainhill's Forge Fitness & Boxing club made a huge £500 donation to Momo's earlier this month.

The money helped Momo's to buy back the talking iPad which is a vital resource for children with additional needs.

In a statement online, Claire Rigby, owner of Momo's said: "Thank you to Forge Fitness & Boxing Rainhill and all the guys down at the boxing club, and a special thank you to Sandra Glynn for raising £500 to replace our talking iPad that was stolen in the burglary last month."

A police investigation opened into the reported burglary last month, with officers making forensic and CCTV inquiries into the offence.
