POLICE said they have been called to a number of crashes on the M62 in today's wet weather.

Officers say collisions have taken place which they say have been mainly "caused by drivers not catering for the heavy rain"

Police urged drivers to cater for the wet conditions on the roads.

Incidents have taken place between junction five and Rainhill Stoops today, Tuesday.

Merseyside Roads Policing Unit said: "We have attended a number of RTCs on the M62 between Junction 5 and Junction 6, predominantly caused by drivers not catering for the heavy rain and standing water.

"Please slow down and drive to the conditions."

Traffic tracker Inrix said that congestion is easing following an earlier police incident on the M62 westbound from junction seven and junction six.
