A SUSPECT has been arrested after reportedly ‘running over a police officer’ and leading police on a 100-mile pursuit this morning, Saturday.
The incident is alleged to have occurred in the Blackpool area, with police chasing a car for more than an hour and a half.
The pursuit occurred along the M6 – through stretches in St Helens, Warrington, Knutsford, Northwich and Middlewich.
Merseyside Police’s Roads Policing Unit explained that the suspect was chased through the North West Motorway Police network by officers.
The force was assisted by colleagues from Lancashire Police’s Tactical Operations division and Cheshire Police’s Roads Crime and Unit.
The driver was eventually stopped through the use of tactics prior to junction 16 on the M6 for Crewe and Stoke and arrested on suspicion of ‘numerous offences’.
A roadblock was used to close the carriageway to safely apprehend the suspect, who is now in custody, at around 7am.
