VOLUNTEERS in Seneley Green learned how to become "future life savers" at a training event last month.
Organised by Friends of Seneley Green, a defibrillator training session took place at Seneley Green Community Hall at the end of October.
While there are currently two defibs around Seneley Green, the majority of the community does not have any CPR training or knowledge of how to use the equipment.
Aware of the vital few minutes after someone has suffered a cardiac arrest, volunteers sought to organise the event so that local people know where to find the defibs and how to use them in times of crisis.
Accessing funding from Ashton Community Circles, nurses and paramedics gave residents vital training so they know how to keep cardiac arrest victims alive before the emergency services arrive.
Taking place at the Seneley Green Community Hall at end of October, around 30 people came to the event to ensure they can be a future life saver if they ever need to be.
Louise Wainwright, who helped to organise the event, said: "The Future Life Savers emerged smiling and brimming with new knowledge and skills!
"The energy in the room was palpable; everywhere there were people practicing the recovery position, defibs shouting instructions, and people performing CPR on the dummies.
"It was the community helping each other in an informal friendly atmosphere with a cup of tea and a biscuit thrown in!."
Following the session, another life-saving defibrillator will be installed in the community to further greater the chances of survival for cardiac arrest victims.
There are also plans for a similar training event to deliver basic First Aid training in the new year.
