There are 11 of us altogether and we all are self employed.

When did you open the salon?

Are you local to the area? Did you grow up here?

Yes I am St Helens born and I trained here before moving away to Manchester and then returning to St Helens during lockdown.

Tell me a bit about your salon/business what services you do?

I have worked in St Helens, Manchester and London as well as on cruise ships for Royal Caribbean and Virgin Voyages. That’s how I came up with name! I have trained with many top brands within hairdressing and been an educator for them too. I provide all hairdressing services including ladies and gents, cuts and colours, hair up, perms and lots more. The salon does all hair and beauty including hair extensions, lashes, nails, facials, makeup, waxing and more.

Why did you decide to open your own salon?

Having worked for people and companies all my life, I wanted to share all the training and knowledge I’ve gained along the way. I wanted to wait until I’d done enough training and knew exactly what I wanted to do before starting my own business.

What’s your hair and beauty background?

Over 24 years of hairdressing, I trained at St Helens College and worked in Westfeild Street, and won several college competitions while I was training. I was chosen to represent the UK in hairdressing competitions and then moved away for a year to Gran Canaria. I then worked for a company based at St Mary’s Arcade for several years, where I was a trainer for 32 salons in the north - Hair Cuttery. When I moved to Manchester, I worked in top salons and trained in London for Loreal, Redken and Wella. I won a Wella Trend Visión regional competition and placed in the UK Finals

Why this type of business?

I’ve always had an interest in this industry since being a child as there are lots of women in my family. It’s always a passion of mine.

How did the Covid-19 pandemic affect your business?

It brought the team together and made us really respect other people working in the industry. It’s been such a difficult time for everyone.

What makes your business different to others in the same area/field? What sets your business apart from your competitors?

The need to share our knowledge and we actually want to understand our clients’ needs. We always try and give them the best advice and most importantly we listen.

Why do loyal clients return to your business?

We give every client the wow factor and they totally trust us.

What’s next? What do the next few months hold for you and your salon?

The plan is to train for the new up and coming looks, trends and colours. We have a couple of competitions we are entering and also I’ve been asked to judge some as well. We just want to give back to our new and loyal guests.
