TRAIN services running from St Helens have been delayed after a person died after being hit by a train at Wigan North Western station.
Emergency services were called to the station just after 11.20am today (Friday, November 4) to reports of a casualty on the tracks.
The person was sadly confirmed as dead at the scene, British Transport Police have said.
The death is not being treated as suspicious, BTP said.

Train lines between Liverpool and Preston are blocked and services running through St Helens are being cancelled or delayed.
In a tweet, National Rail said: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Liverpool Lime Street and Preston all lines are blocked.
"Train services running to and from these stations will be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes."
Disruption is reportedly expected until around 2pm.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "British Transport Police were called to Wigan station at 11.21am this morning (4 November) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are currently working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
