A 17-FOOT high pyramid that shares the stories of immigrants and refugees is due to open in St Mary’s Market next week.
The giant artwork called Made of Stars is part of the FREE arts festival Take Over 2022 from St Helens-based arts organisation Heart of Glass.
Made of Stars, created by Liverpool’s Turntable Theatre, is billed as “an exploration of humanity in the modern world, created by a community of global artists who have sought refuge in the Liverpool City Region”. A three-day run of the immersive experience takes place from Friday, November 11 to Sunday, November 13 inside St Mary’s Market.
Suitable for audiences of all ages, Made of Stars will wrap everyone in an empowering sensorial experience.
The piece draws on the awe-inspiring stories of 14 refugee artists led by Iranian filmmaker Elia Sadeqi; Jaime Perez Sandoval, a radio presenter from El Salvador; Mudaser Akbari, a young Afghan boxer); and Monira Whadat, an Afghan seamstress.
Free tickets to experience Made of Stars in St Helens are available from: heartofglass.org.uk/project-and-events/events/made-of-stars Fresh from a successful run at the Black-E in Liverpool, the installation arrives in St Helens before visiting Liverpool Lighthouse in Anfield.
Each collaborator’s story, be it inspiring, aspirational or challenging, is woven together, from the depths of outer space to a mysterious radio tower in Southern America, and from familiar landmarks to the breath-taking creations of Afghan seamstresses.
Angharad Williams, Head of Creative People and Places at Heart of Glass said: “We are thrilled to be staging this amazing artwork in St Helens as part of Take Over 2022.
“Our Creative People and Places programme is about bringing artists and communities together to create and experience amazing art and Made of Stars is an incredible example of that. We can’t wait for the people of St Helens to experience it.”
