A MOTORCYCLIST has been taken to hospital with "life-threatening injuries" after being hit by a bus in a crash.

Rainhill Road has been closed in both directions after emergency services attended the scene shortly before 9am this morning, Monday, October 17.

A police cordon has been put in place and ambulance attended the scene after reports of the crash between a motorbike and a bus.

The motorbike rider, a 30-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment for "life-threatening injuries", said police.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "We are appealing for information following a road traffic collision in St Helens today, Monday, October 17.

"At around 8.50am emergency services were called to Rainhill Road to reports of a collision involving a motorbike and a bus. 

"The motorbike rider, a 30-year-old man, was seriously injured which are believed to life-threatening and has been taken to hospital for treatment.

"The bus driver stopped at the scene and is helping police with their inquiries." 

She added: "Rainhill Road is currently closed while emergency services attend the incident.

"We ask that drivers avoid the area and find an alternative route. We thank you for your patience as we deal with this incident.   

"We are appealing for any witnesses, CCTV and dash camera footage which may assist the investigation."

A North West Ambulance spokesman said: "We were called to a motorbike accident at 8.45am.

"An air ambulance, advanced paramedic, and two ambulance crews attended the scene."
