JOE Batchelor says committing his long-term future to St Helens was “an absolute no-brainer.”
Saints have confirmed the England international has penned a new three-year deal to keep him at the Totally Wicked Stadium until November 2025.
He has been a part of four Grand Final-winning squads, playing key roles in the past two Super League triumphs having made his breakthrough into the first team.
“I’m absolutely delighted to be staying,” the second rower said.
“I couldn’t think of anywhere else I’d rather be playing my rugby so to stay for another three years was an absolute no brainer and I’m absolutely delighted.”
A superb season of 12 tries in 29 appearances saw him called up to the England squad for the Rugby League World Cup having made his international debut in the mid-season game against the Combined Nations All Stars.
New head coach Paul Wellens says Batchelor “epitomises everything we value as a team.”
“It’s great that Joe’s signed with us for another three years,” he said.
“We rewarded him with the number 12 shirt at the start of the season after working hard to force his way into the team back in 2021.
“He really took his opportunity and improved on that again last season.
“It’s really pleasing for us as a club to see Joe’s form rewarded England selection, proof that it’s not only us that see the value he brings both on and off the field.
“He’s a great player to work with, he epitomises everything we value as a team and has earned every success he’s had.
“His re-signing is a great boost for us ahead of the 2023 campaign.”
