JD Gyms say they are "excited" to be launching a "world-class facility" in St Helens.
As the Star reported, JD Gyms, part of JD Sports Fashion group, is transforming the former Xercise4Less St Helens on Boundary Road into JD Gyms St Helens.
The premises is undergoing a renovation, along with the adjacent Farmfoods supermarket which has also closed for a refurbishment.
The gym will feature hundreds of pieces of kit, free weights and cardio areas, a prowler/sled track, boxing area and an Eleiko functional rig, plus saunas in luxury changing rooms.
The gym will be open 24/7 and will free parking on site.
JD Gyms said the facility will open alter this year but have not yet confirmed an exact opening date.
Managing director of JD Gyms, Alun Peacock, said: “St Helens is a fantastic location for us as we expand the JD Gyms brand across the UK.
"We’re incredibly excited to be creating such a high standard of fitness facility for the people of Merseyside.”
Membership is £5 for the first month, then £19.99 a month, with no contract and no joining fee.
