POLICE are keen to speak to a pedestrian who may have "crucial evidence" after a serious crash in which a woman in her 70s was taken to hospital with fractures and other injuries.

Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses after the crash, which saw a Range Rover upturned, in Moss Bank Road on Friday morning, September 9.

At around 10.55am emergency services were called to a report of the collision involving a black Golf Volkswagen and a blue Range Rover.

Police say a woman in her 70s was removed from one of the vehicles and was taken to hospital with several fractures and other serious injuries.
 
A 31-year-old-man from St Helens, who was the driver of the Blue Range Rover, was later arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He was taken to hospital with several injuries and has since been released under investigation.

An investigation is underway and officers would like to speak to anyone who was at the scene on Friday morning and saw the collision.

Police are keen to speak to other drivers who were in the area and to a pedestrian, a man pedestrian described as "bald or balding" with a cut to his left leg who was walking on Birchley Road at the time.

Sergeant Greg Gillespie said: “Although an arrest was made shortly after the collision, we are still appealing for anyone to come forward who saw this incident.

“Witness inquiries shows there were several vehicles in and around the collision and we believe that the drivers of these cars could have vital information that may help us understand the circumstances of this collision which left a woman with severe injuries.

“We are also keen to speak with a male who may have been walking on Birchley Road at the time of the collision. He was described as a white male, with a bald or balding head and a cut to his left leg. We would like this male to contact us as soon as possible to discuss what he may have seen, as he may have crucial evidence that could assist our inquiries.

“If you were on Moss Bank Road at the time of the incident and saw the collision or have any CCTV and dash camera footage which may assist the investigation please contact police.”
