The business, on Duke Street, was started by Elizabeth Greenall 68 years ago on September 6, 1954.

Her son Colin began working at the shop aged 10, later becoming a partner in 1965, before he took the reins from 1970.

Its most-loved items which fly off the shelves each day include steak pies, meat and potato pies, vanilla slices, blackcurrant tarts and custard tarts, with everything made at the shop.

Colin, 78, says he has “lots of good memories” from over the decades and expressed sadness at the upcoming closure but said the time had come for him to retire.
