WINSFORD joined towns across Cheshire West and Chester in holding a proclamation service this afternoon, Sunday, to announce our new sovereign, His Majesty King Charles III.
This followed the lighting of the Brunner Guildhall and the Town Park salt stacks in royal purple to commemorate the sad passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The Mayor of Winsford, Cllr Joanne Moorcroft, said: "It was a privilege to lead Winsford's proclamation service.
“In the days of instant news, there's still a place for the traditional proclamation service.
"The service was a chance for the town to be together in support of our new sovereign, His Majesty King Charles III, following the sad passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II."
The Deputy Lieutenant, Bill Holroyd CBE DL and Mayor Moorcroft led the Winsford service.
They were joined by the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Lyndsay Barwell, and the Junior Mayor, Freddie Sant, with blessings and prayers offered by Rev George Crowder of St John's Church.
Mayor Moorcroft concluded: "I am grateful to the members of the public and to the representatives from the armed forces, Cheshire Police and the Royal British Legion for their attendance.
“Thank you also to all the civic guests and councillors who attended, and to Winsford Town Council and Cheshire West and Chester Council staff for making today possible.
"God Save The King!"
