POLICE arrested a suspected thief after items were stolen from a discount shop.
Staff at Poundland in Lagrange Arcade in St Helens town centre had alerted a PCSO of a theft on Wednesday morning, September 7, after they had challenged a man at the store.
A suspect, from Thatto Heath, was detained nearby by officers.
He was arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop.

Police say most of the stolen items had been recovered by shop staff before the suspect left.
However, police recovered remaining items and returned them to the store.
These included Maltesers chocolates and air fresheners.
