THE CAST of a "laugh out loud" comedy are preparing to make the Citadel's last performances go out with a bang.
After MD Creatives ended their contract with the Citadel last week, 'Bootcamp' is one of the two final performances to take place at the historic theatre until a new tenant is found.
Desperately working out the logistics with Citadel landlord Ian Pitts, the team have "all pulled rank" to make sure the performance can go ahead this week.
After enjoying success at Liverpool's Fringe Festival in 2017, 'Bootcamp' has been refreshed and rewritten as a "laugh out loud" dark comedy that looks into characters in work and social settings.
Containing St Helens-based actors Liz Smith and Andy Woodward, the performance sees a "very relatable" set of characters forced into going on a team-building boot camp with colleagues that they despise.
Behind all the chaos and arguments, a focus on each character highlights "what is going on behind the scenes" and gives the audience a more compassionate understanding of them.
It is through this understanding, writer and producer Kerry Williams says, that the characters realise they have "a lot more in common than they anticipated" and start to become a team without realising it.
Based in Liverpool, Kerry has written numerous plays, pantomimes, and short films while working with Elegant Productions.
Bringing the popular 'Bootcamp' back with a "fresh twist", she hopes the "brilliant" cast will delight the St Helens crowd and provide an avenue to grow the production.
Kerry said: "We have such a brilliant cast of really strong actors, and I'm just super proud to see it all come together.
"We have had to deal with a bit of adversity with the possibility of the show being cancelled, but I think that has just put extra fire in our bellies to go out and give it all we've got.
"Everybody needs a real belly laugh right now and 'Bootcamp' is a real laugh out loud comedy, so I hope can't wait to showcase it in St Helens."
'Bootcamp' takes place at the Citadel Theatre on Thursday, September 8 and Friday, September 9.
